Comprehensive Thinking-woodmam

Wilson believed that his hotel must be spread along the highway so that it would be visible to everyone who passed it.

The standard rooms in the traditional hotels of the time were often cold and empty, and the atmosphere in the lobby was even more daunting. Wilson thought that the rooms in the hotels he opened must be designed to be brightly lit, airy, and softly colored, so that travelers would be filled with a sense of friendliness.

Wilson noticed that, at that time in the United States, many families had not yet installed air conditioners, he designed the rooms with air conditioning devices, and each house must be put on a television set, so that the family can go out to enjoy the scenery along the way, after the evening can also enjoy interesting programs. Moreover, he knows from personal experience that every businessman is lonely at night when he goes out for business trips.

Eating in a luxuriously equipped restaurant is a happy thing. Wilson designed a beautiful restaurant, the restaurant's dishes include everything, from children's favorite meatloaf to large steak, everything, and the price is appropriate. In addition, each room had to be equipped with a telephone, and there were ice cream machines everywhere, so it was easy to eat on your own. There are also vending machines for drinks, ready to serve everyone.

Wilson also designed a swimming pool for children, arranged for child care services, and even designed a free kennel for travelers' puppies to live in.

The more he thought about it, the more pleased he became with the design, and finally, he put some thought into an attractive name for his motel: the Holiday Inn.

In 1952, the first Holiday Inn was built on Summer Avenue, one of the main arteries into Memphis. Since then, the network has grown to include 1,750 Holiday Inns in all 50 U.S. states and on all continents except Antarctica. The idea that Wilson aroused from discontent brought him a fortune of $3.7 billion.

It can be said that in the process of the introduction of Holiday Inn, the creator Wilson fully used the thinking method of development, he saw the bright future of Holiday Inn, and was able to realize that with the end of the war, the previous kind of humble motel no longer met the needs of reality. Because society had settled down and the economy was developing rapidly, people's requirements for motels were bound to increase a lot. In the specific design, Wilson put himself in the position of a traveler and envisioned all the requirements a traveler would have for a hotel. It was Wilson's developmental thinking that made the Holiday Inn a great success.

Third, use comprehensive thinking to solve problems.

The method of comprehensive analysis is to use a comprehensive view to examine the object of thinking a viewpoint method, that is, from the spatio-temporal overall comprehensive examination of the horizontal connection and vertical development process of the object of thinking a viewpoint method. In other words, the comprehensive analysis method is the object of thought for many aspects, multi-angle, multi-faceted, multi-directional examination.

During the reign of Emperor Zhenzong of the Song Dynasty, a fire broke out in the palace and destroyed several palaces. The emperor asked Ding Wei to organize the restoration work and ordered him to finish it as soon as possible.

Ding Wei thought that it would take a long time to build the palaces, which required a lot of soil and bricks and wood, and that it would take a long time to get them from overseas. Ding Wei thought hard and finally came up with a good idea: he ordered the craftsmen to dig up the dirt in front of the palace and then transport it inside the palace, so that there would be enough dirt to repair the palace and the original avenue would become a wide deep ditch. He also ordered people to communicate the deep ditch with the Bianshui outside the city, so that the Bianshui flowed into the ditch, so that the ships carrying wood, bricks and tiles could drive directly to the gate of the palace through this artificial river, and then transported to the site from the gate with much less effort, and the restoration work of the palace progressed quickly, much earlier than the scheduled time. After the restoration work was completed, there was a lot of burnt and broken bricks and tiles, garbage and waste soil left. Ding Wei had them filled in the ditch so that the deep ditch became the original avenue again.

  3. Self-assessment

you think that good or bad grades are determined by one's talent, so even if one works harder, nothing can change.

You think your foreign language is not good from the beginning, and it is difficult to learn it well in the future, so you want to give up now.

you feel that you don't have any special skills in sports, so you don't need to participate in sports activities

you feel that it is meaningless to be friends with your classmates and that you will go your own way after graduation anyway.

you think that studying history doesn't help you learn languages and it's not tested in the midterm, so you don't need to learn it

you think that people who do well in arts don't do too well in science, and vice versa, so you decide to put your efforts into arts from now on

You think that someone who doesn't pay attention to his studies must be a person who doesn't take anything seriously.

  Chapter 2 Correcting Bad Habits

  I. Habits of fixed thinking

  1. Concept and connotation

Soviet psychologist Baudarev in 1965 did a very interesting experiment on mental stereotypes. He took a photo to a group of college students repeatedly introduced, "I'll show you a photo of a great scientist, please talk about your views on the facial features of this scientist." The unanimous opinion of this group of college students after looking at the photo was that the deep eyes of this scientist showed the depth of his mind. His prominent chin showed his determination to overcome difficulties in the path of scientific research. Baudarev then showed this photo to another group of university students and repeatedly introduced it to them saying, "I will show you a photo of a big criminal and ask you to tell what you think about the facial features of this criminal." The unanimous opinion of this group of college students after looking at the photo was that the deep-set eyes of this criminal showed his deep-seated hatred. His protruding chin showed his unrepentant determination to die.

Two groups of college students looked at the same photo, but why did their opinions differ so much? The reason for this is obviously not their different thinking and character or different values and aesthetics, but the different introduction of the identity of the person in the photo by the psychologist Baudarev. The different introductions formed different psychological stereotypes in the minds of the two groups of college students.

The so-called stereotypical thinking habit is the habit of thinking that one always uses the existing methods, ideas, theories, etc. related to this thing when looking at or solving problems.

Let's look at an example to understand more clearly what is a stereotypical habit of thinking. If asked: What is the largest number that can be arranged by two Arabic numerals "1", anyone will immediately answer that it is "11". If asked: what is the largest number that can be arranged by three "1", everyone can also quickly answer "111". If asked again: What is the largest number that can be formed by four "1s"? At this point, many people will still answer "1111". Is this correct? As long as a little knowledge of mathematics will know, four Arabic numerals "1" can be arranged by the largest number is not only "1111", they can also be arranged into "11" of "11 times". But why many people will answer wrong? That is because after the first few repetitions in the same way, they have formed a stereotypical thinking habit in the process of thinking.
